Trisakti University was established in the midst of Res Publica University (URECA) ruins, demolished by people due to its affiliation with Indonesian Communist Party (PKI). The Establishment of Trisakti University was legalized by the letter of the Higher Education and Science Ministry (PTIP) Decree no. 014/dar/1965 and no. 014/darI1965, signed by Syarief Thajeb, Dr. on November 29. 1965. This ...date is agreed as the day of the establishment of Trisakti University.
In the beginning, the condition of Trisakti University (USAKTI) was insufficient, where learning process was very uneasy, however, with spirit and strong intention the limitation of physical facility was not a main problem. Students and Lecturers, hand in hand, provided ‘a clean environment’ and made improvement and refurbishment of the existing condition in the campus.
The process of the establishment of Trisakti University (USAKTI) was quite interesting. USAKTI was the only private university that was established by the Government. This unique relationship has been maintained through out the development of USAKTI in the Indonesian education. Minister Syarief Thajeb was the person who formed a temporary presidium, which consisted of well-known education people. The main goal was to simplify the supervision of academic and administration. A year later, the government established the Trisakti Foundation based on the Notaries Act, signed by E. Pondaag.

Education system adopted by all study programs in Trisakti University is Semester Credit System (SKS) namely system of education using Credits (sks) for study load, student learning experience, lecturer teaching load and study program load. Semester is a continuous time period where students study based on credit load planned at the beginning of the semester. In each semester there is an academic time schedule between 16 to 19 weeks of lectures or practicum; within this time period, supporting academic activities are performed and also evaluation activities. To achieve a Degree, every student must complete an amount of credits designated by each study program, namely between 144 and 160 credits, designed to be completed normally within 8 semester. The maximum study period for a student to complete respective study load/ total credits is 14 semester.
Based on the Trisakti University statute in the year 1965, the University logo is a TRISULA (the trident-a weapon in Indonesian traditional mythology) in black color which is symbolic of the TRIDARMA (the triad functions) of Indonesian higher education institutions covering education,research, and services to the community, stands on five roots in black color which symbolizing PANCASILA, the five basic state philosophy principles.
Every Faculty within the Trisakti University has their own respective banner which uses only the logo of Trisakti University in different color as regulated by the Rector’s decree. Faculty of Law TRISAKTI UNIVERSITY uses red. Faculty of Economics uses yellow, Faculty of Medicine uses green, Faculty of Dentistry uses purple, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning uses blue. Faculty of Industrial Technology uses light blue, Faculty of Earth Technology and Energy uses dark blue. Faculty of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Technology uses light blue, Faculty of Arts and Design uses tosca green and the school of Graduate Studies uses brownish orange.
