UNUSA established by the Foundation for Islamic Hospital Surabaya (Yarsis). The embryo begins its establishment since 1979, namely in the form of the establishment of the School Health Nurse (SPK) Yarsis. Then in perjalannannya also stood Yarsis Nursing Academy (1985), while the SPK turned into Yarsis Midwifery Academy (1997). Do not stop there, in 2006, two institutions (AKPER-AKBID) Yarsis em...bedding the institution and its conversion into STIKES Yarsis up to now with the addition of Prodi S1 Nursing and Professional Programs nurses. STIKES Yarsis in Surabaya with the provision of more than 33 years experience in managing educational institutions and encouragement of NU"s, PC NU Surabaya, PW NU and NU, then since 2012 began to put forward the process of the legality of the transition form to the Higher Education institution became the University. A big jump but the focus of such a long process, finally in 2013 formed the University of NU Surabaya (UNUSA).
To facilitate the study program 16, which has been opened, UNUSA already has two campuses with complete and modern facilities. Supported by a fully equipped laboratory for each course, have their own hospitals (RS. Islam Surabaya Yani and RS. Islam Surabaya Jemursari). The hospital functions other than as a health care facility UNUSA academicians also intended for activities practice facilities for all courses that exist in supporting the achievement of student competence. Studio Audio Visual laboratories have to practice micro teaching for the Faculty of Education, as well as various supporting infrastructure of other teaching and learning process.
The curriculum at UNUSA the curriculum up to date in accordance with the demands of modern society with the learning method Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and oriented to student autonomy. UNUSA have a clear vision and mission, and continuously expand its facilities and new courses in line with the development of education and the needs of society in the future.

Produce graduates who have the intellectual ability, professional, entrepreneurial minded, and berjati self-Islami. Generate ideas to strengthen the development of moral, ethical, and greater social awareness of the Indonesian nation. Empowering communities through conceptual thinking, resolving and overcoming problems that exist in society. Produce human resources that have the capability of innovative, educational, and initiative in the development of education.
