Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit is a unit whose duty is to Study and Develop UB’s Information and Communication Technology, and also perform management and service of information and communication technology to all members of UB academic society.
Nowadays, Information and Communication Technology has become something that cannot be separated from everyday life. In th...e today’s era of globalization, information and communication technology has an important role in the various aspects of human life. Information and communication technologies provide very positive impact in many ways, including: decision support; increased efficiency and productivity; supporting the work and learning activities, and can even improve the quality of human life. The role of information and communication technologies will increase as the time goes by, and until it became a basic element in human lives.
The role of information and communication technology in education is also very important, especially in terms of supporting the teaching-learning process and the efficiency of academic and administrative jobs. University, as one of the educational institution, should be able to take advantage of information and communication technology in supporting its various activities. Penetration and implementation of information and communication technology in higher education will provide a very positive impact and is expected to provide efficiency and high productivity in academic and administrative areas. In addition, with the implementation and adaptation of information and communication technology, it is also expected that universities can continue to compete in the competitive arena of education at the national and even International level.
UB as one of the state universities in Indonesia have been doing implementation and adaptation of information and communication technology since the last few years. Starting from the Computer Center Technical Services Unit, and then developed with the presence of Assessment and Application of Information Technology Unit (UPPTI) and the Development Center for E-learning Technical Services Unit (PPE), a proper computer network infrastructure has been installed. Network connection to the Internet and web-based services such as websites and email has also been available. With the human resources owned by institutions of information and communication technologies above, various applications of information and communication technologies are also developed, implemented, and has been used. In addition, the UB’s success in establishing a variety of cooperation with foreign parties in the field of information and communication technology has also been a positive impact on the development of information and communication technology at UB, and also improve UB’s prestige as one of the universities with technology research information and communication major.
