The Arab World is witnessing a rise in blended higher education venues and is constantly assessing their viability and impact on our development. The Arab Open University (AOU) take pride of being the pioneer of this ambitious project and stands ready to nurture the new concept in university education delivery at the highest standards. Since its inception in 2002, AOU has strived to offer blended higher learning programs in strategic partnership with the Open University in the United Kingdom. The Board of Trusties has created AOU"s mandate on the premise of offering distinguished educational quality and assurance of equal learning opportunities for all eligible students.
AOU cherishes its social contribution, which we strive to achieve through a team spirit in our work environment and an attitude of being one family in serving our students. With that quality, we endeavor to facilitate the relevant affairs of the students and assist them in overcoming challenges they might face in the course of their studies. AOU is excited to inform its community that it has started offering new graduate and post graduate programs to accommodate needs and requests. The Board of the Arab Open University (AOU) held its 58th meeting on 6 March 2017 at the AOU-HQ building. The meeting was headed by Prof. Moudi Al-Humoud, President of the AOU, and attended by Prof. Mohammad Hamadan, Advisor of the AOU, Vice Presidents, Deans, AOU branch Directors, a number of department directors, and representatives of AOU faculty members.
The initiative taken by AOU Board of Trustees, chaired by HRH Prince Talal Bin Abdulaziz, in adopting the new learning concept of “blended learning” reflects his HRH great interest in the advancement of Arab youth and Arab future generations. Blended learning is considered one of the advanced learning systems. AOU has been accredited with this system by British Open University since 2001. AOU, with headquarters in the State of Kuwait, established several branches and learning centers in seven Arab states; and Kuwait branch is considered one of the essential branches as it provides its learning services to nearly five thousands students.
In the process of developing AOU; Board of Trustees had initiated and approved “Master Program” for MBA, English Literature, Software development, and Education. Furthermore, a new premises for Campus of Kuwait Branch is in its final stages, which will be furnished with all necessary and up-to-date equipment including learning resources to serve our students.
AOU is a non-profit university that has eight branches in the Arab World. These branches are located in Kuwait, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman and Sudan. Dual degrees accredited by the Open University in UK and equated by the Supreme Council of Universities in Kuwait.Flexible learning system, since AOU adopts a combination of face to face and distance learning education. Full scholarship for academically superior students.
Students receive academic probations if their GPA is lower than 2.00 in each separate semester. Students do not receive academic probations in summer courses. Students who have applied for postponement of studies will not receive academic probations in the postponed semester. Students that exceed five academic probations in a row are suspended from the university.
Students may postpone their studies for 4 separate semesters. Students should provide reasons of their postponements. Students who exceed their 4 time postponement chances will be suspended. Postponement of study is not permitted for newly admitted students on their first semester of their studies. Students that do not register for a semester without applying for postponement will be regarded as non-continuous. Students that receive three non-continuous statuses in a row will be suspended.
