Goce Delchev University in Shtip was established by the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia on 27 March 2007. The first Constitutive Session of the University Senate was held on 28 June 2007, in the amphitheater of the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Polytechnic.
In the presence of the Secretary of State for Education, Mr Pero Stojanov and some members of the establishing committee of UGD, representatives of students, professors, assistants and citizens of Shtip, the University Senate unanimously decided to appoint Professor Sasha Mitrev, full-time professor of the Faculty of Agriculture as rector of the University, for the time period from June2007 to June 2011. At the same session, Professor Dushan Todorovski, PhD, associate professor at the Faculty of Education, was elected the first president of the University Senate.
Goce Delchev University was founded initially with seven faculties and one higher school. The faculties are as follows: Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Mining, Geology and Polytechnic, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Faculty of Music and Higher Medical School.
Since the academic 2008/2009 year the University has established six new faculties: Faculty of Medical Science, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Tourism and Business Logistics. In the first academic year, 1.300 students were enrolled at the University.
The status of a University student is obtained by enrolling in the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies at the faculties and the higher vocational institution at Goce Delcev University. Students fulfill their rights and obligations as determined by law and the general acts of the University and its units.
The status of a student, thereby a member of the academic community, is attained by enrollment in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies at a university or any kind of independent institution of higher education. The student can prove his status by using a Student’s Identification Card.
Goce Delcev University in Stip is a State University, ranked at the second place on the list of state universities in the Republic of Macedonia. The University is entirely digitized and offers quality education. The University has the most up-to-date equipment and modern technology. Thanks to these already mentioned aspects, the University has become a choice of many foreign students, who fulfill their visions in the country.
The reason why the percentage of enrolled foreign students rises, year in year out, is profound. The students coming from surrounding countries like Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, as well as from more distant countries like Holland, Germany, USA, choose this University because of different reasons, but all of them agree that they have ideal conditions for studying, large choice of study programs, as well as great conditions for residence in cozy and professional environment. In the academic 2010/2011 the University founded the Institute of languages at the Faculty of Philology, whose aim among others, is to prepare the foreign students for studying in Macedonian language. As soon as, the foreign student arrives, he/she starts studying the Macedonian language. The courses are divided into two parts, each spans three months’ time. After successfully completing the courses, the foreign students can attend the lectures in Macedonian language at one of the thirteen faculties.
The Macedonian classes which are organized within the preparatory courses for foreign students, begin in October and span till the end of December, while the beginning of the second course is in February and spans till May.
