Caraga State University endeavors to produce globally-competitive and socially responsible human capital towards the substainable and inclusive development of Caraga Region and beyond.
Caraga State University shall primarily provide advanced education, higher technological, professional instruction and training in the fields of agriculture and environmental studies, fishery, engineering, ...forestry, industrial technology, education, law, medicine and other health related programs, information technology, arts and sciences and other related courses. It shall undertake research and extension services, and provide progressive leadership in its areas of specialization.
CSU endeavors to contribute to the achievement of the regional and national development goals and shall strive to achieve a maximum level of performance in terms of “relevance and responsiveness, excellence and quality, equity and access, efficiency and effectiveness, discipline, teamwork, impact and learning to learn” in the four major areas of concern: Instruction, Research, Extension and Production.
CSU, as the flagship government institution of higher learning in the Caraga, Region XIII, adheres to the credo of “Leadership Through Purposing: Say it, model it, organize for it, support it, enforce it and commend practices that exemplify core values and express outrage when practices violate these core values”. It is committed to propel all efforts towards the achievement of its Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives in response to regional and national development goals.
CSU adheres to the philosophy that the dignity, integrity, and personal worth of the individual are highly cherished and respected. Each person, regardless of race, color, creed or economic status, is a resource of a nation; that education is basic to individual and national development and is the backbone of human resource development; and that the role of an educational institution is to offer each individual the opportunities to realize his potentials, to imbibe the concept of “learning to learn”, to make his most effective contribution to the country’s social and economic development, and to systematize and apply his knowledge into the affairs of men and nations.
Caraga State University continues to serve the Caraga Region through the delivery of accredited programs and relevant diploma, associate, undergraduate and graduate courses. Its growth as an academic community is exemplified in the increase in the number of enrollees, the rise of new infrastructure, the revision and strengthening of programs offered, the consistency of linkage established, and the development of the teaching force through the faculty development program.
Being the first State University in the whole of Caraga Region, Caraga State University strives and see to it that the education acquired by the students meet the standards of excellence and quality possible. The University has a very strong Faculty force where twenty-three percent (23%) holds appropriate Doctorate Degrees and the rest with Master"s Degrees.
The University admits students regardless of nationality, socio-economic status, religious beliefs or political affiliation. The Institute, however, reserves the right to refuse admission of an applicant whose qualification do not meet the course requirement he or she desires to pursue.High School graduates or transferees seeking admission to the University for degree and/or non-degree courses must pass the NORMISIST (now Caraga State University) Scholarship and Admission Examination (NSAE) administered by the Admissions, Counseling and Testing Center.
The Caraga State University is an academic institution tasked by the government to provide quality service in professional and technological training particularly in the northeastern Mindanao area, the Caraga Region. As a state institution, its mandate is to support socio-economic development in its service area through the basic functions of instructions, research, extension and production. Research provides the foundation for the other three functions, hence, a sound Research and Development (R&D) program should be formulated and implemented to answer the technological needs and problems of the people in its service area.
Guided by its Vision, Mission, Goal and Objectives, CSU crafted its Five-Year Research and Development Agenda. The Agenda shall serve as the detailed road map towards achieving the common goal of reducing poverty through proper education and economic development efforts while sustaining the natural resources for the future generations.In adherence to the Caraga Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2004-2010 toward seeing the region equitably wealthy, the CSU R&D Agenda likewise reflects the basic sources of livelihood for Caraga populace; agriculture, forestry, fishery and mining, and the need for higher level of educational capacities. The basic livelihood sources of Caraga populations and the status of functional literacy in the region serve as the guide for the Institute"s efforts to generate information, technologies and knowledge in support to the region"s quest to be free from poverty and ignorance.
As the base agency of CCARRD, Caraga State University is actively involved in the various programs and activities of the consortium. It actively participates in the S&T Anchor Program for Caraga Region - the ITP-Based R&D Support Program led by DENR-13. It also supports the K-Agrinet Program of the consortium by establishing its own Techno-Pinoy Center or the Farmers" Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center, based at theCollege of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR). In partnership with CCARRD, Caraga State University was able to establish new linkages and generate additional resources for its R&D activities. These include among others the Biodiversity Archiving and Assessment Project funded by CEPF and the Socioeconomic Profiling in Eastern Mindanao Corridor funded by CI-Philippines.
