The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has granted autonomous status to De La Salle University (DLSU) for a period of five (5) years from April 1, 2016 to May 31, 2021 (per CHED Memorandum Order 20, series 2016). DLSU is one of only three private higher education institutions (HEIs) to be given this recognition for five years. Furthermore, the CHED named fourteen academic programs of DLSU as Centers of Excellence (COEs) and five academic programs as Centers of Development (CODs).
Aligned to our commitment towards continuous quality enhancement, we have voluntarily submitted our academic programs (both graduate and undergraduate) for external evaluation by renowned agencies such as the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) and the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN QA). To date, DLSU has been granted Institutional Accreditation status by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP) for having demonstrated the highest standards of instruction, research, and community engagement and having developed wide networks and linkages with other educational institutions. Twelve (12) undergraduate programs have achieved the highest accreditation of Level IV; the graduate programs of Br. Andrew Gonzalez College of Education, College of Liberal Arts and College of Science have also been granted Level III, the highest accreditation level for graduate school.
A total of fifteen (15) undergraduate programs underwent a Programme Assessment by the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN QA). For this year, the BS Applied Corporate Management and the BS Entrepreneurship programs of the Ramon V. del Rosario College of Business received the prestigious AUN QA certification. The two programmes were assessed based on 11 AUN criteria stated in the revised AUN QA Guidelines version 3.0.
The Lasallian Mission at DLSU is essentially the mission of the entire University community as expressed in its Vision-Mission Statement. Each member is invited to integrate this Mission with their specific role and expertise; whether in administration, academics or research, contributing their part to the University becoming a resource for Church and nation.
Recognizing that the Lasallian Mission involves all personnel and functions in De La Salle University, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Lasallian Mission and its constituent bodies exist to provide Lasallian formation for all members of the University community. Ultimately, the goal of its efforts towards faith formation and community engagement is to help DLSU become more and more a school of and for the poor.
DLSU is a school of the poor in as far as the Lasallian community is committed to providing full scholarships to at least 20% of its total population. It means that 1 out of every 5 students will be from the most disadvantaged groups in society.
More importantly, DLSU is a school for the poor. This means that every academic department has to integrate relevant community engagement programs into their curriculum. As an institution for higher learning, academic departments of the university must seek, wherever possible, to use their unique expertise to conduct research on poverty in all its forms and more importantly, develop sustainable solutions towards eradicating it.
Forward-looking research addresses the need for timely and appropriate knowledge and applications. It provides insights into critical issues, and positions all people and instruments needed in the proper perspective. It refines existing theories, techniques and equipment to address the need for expertise in providing solutions to the country’s developmental and educational concerns. Over time, research provides the leverage that transforms into intellectual leadership. At De La Salle University, all colleges are encouraged to identify their own research objectives towards its goal of being a world-class university.
The University also coordinates activities and disseminates pertinent information to institutionally-based externally-funded research objectives. These research projects are awarded by organizations or institutions that provide funds to DLSU. In turn, the faculty is provided mechanisms that aid them in research activities.
