The University of St. La Salle, a non-stock and non-profit corporation, was established in 1952 by three American Brothers under the umbrella of the Philippine Province of the Brothers of the Christian Schools which is an international institute of religious dedicated to the service of mankind with special concern for the poor, through education.
Responding to the challenges of national a...nd international realities and to the directives of the Philippine Lasallian Family in 2009, the tertiary level of the University of St. La Salle defined its commitment to provide educational experiences which develop its Expected Lasallian Graduate Attributes (ELGA) socially responsible Christians, critical thinkers, and effective communicators.
In the last 6 years, USLS has embarked on several initiatives, among them the verticalization of all Graduate Programs, the development of Faculty Research capabilities, the creation of Academe – Industry Councils, the strengthening of its Career Development Program, the adoption of Service – Learning in identified courses, the enhancement of its Culture and Arts Program through the Artists’ Hub, the sports program campaign Play Hard, Study Harder, the Student Development Agenda and the Lasallian Leadership Formation Programs, the creation of Project STAY for academically – challenged students, and Project STIMULUS for gifted and innovative students.
The La Salle Graduate School started in 1966 with the offering of the Master in Business Administration (MBA) program designed to assist the community prepare graduates to assume managerial positions in the business world.Years later, a master’s program in Educational Management was offered to train educational administrators and strengthen school management in the city and the province.
In due time, the Graduate School offered master’s and doctorate degrees in various fields of specialization, including the Project Flagships to Reach Educational Excellence (Project F.R.E.E.) program in partnership with the Department of Education and the Eduardo Cojuangco Foundation, the Master of Arts in Conflict and Reconciliation Studies in cooperation with PAX Christi International, and the Master in Education major in Marriage and Family in consortium with the Pope John Paul II Institute, the seat of the Philippine campus of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute of Studies on Marriage and Family based at the Lateran University in Rome.The Graduate School also works toward the fulfillment of the needs of the individual student by providing modules prepared by mentors for home learning for some senior executives and managers who may not always have the time to attend classes. For some executives and managers, open learning coupled with modular classes on a one-on-one basis are provided. These approaches to graduate education are novel ways to further management skills and techniques for graduate students who are willing to improve themselves while actively engaged in their work positions. Today, the University continues to make its presence distinctly felt as it consistently produces leaders and key actors in the fields of business enterprise and industry, banking and finance, education and healthcare, information technology and environment, and most notably, in government service.
A freshman class of about 2,000 students are admitted each year. The University therefore reserves the right to refuse admission to applicants or to require withdrawal of students when it deems their presence among the student body is inimical to the objective of the University or to the observance of the regulations.
In line with the school’s strategic mission of nurturing the heart and strengthening the mind of Filipinos that are dedicated to pursue their education, La Salle - Bacolod offers various scholarships to Liceo and undergraduate students. These scholarships are offered to those who excel in academics, athletics, and performing arts as well as to those who are financially-deprived. Applicants who in the evaluation of the admissions officer, are qualified to profit from the educational program of the college are admitted to the University of St. La Salle. In determining the admission of applicants, consideration shall be given to past scholastic records, present scholastic aptitude, character, recommendations as well as the applicant"s acceptance of the Mission Statement and all policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the College.
Upon the request of the University of St. La Salle - Bacolod for the inclusion in the Bureau of Immigration list of schools to accept non-immigrant students pursuant to Section 9(f) of Philippine Immigration Act of 1904, the University of St. La Salle- Bacolod has been granted the authority to accept foreign students in all level of Basic Education, Undergraduate degrees, Graduate Studies program since July 25, 2001, and additional course and programs such as Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Courses and Senior High School Program have also been granted authority in March 17, 2017 subject to the compliance of all existing rules and regulations imposed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) with the school accreditation number ADD01- 113.
The USLS Granada Ecological Park or “ECOPARK” is a ten-hectare park within the 55 – hectare Granada Campus. It serves to provide a venue and structure for ecological resource and learning, nature appreciation, biodiversity conservation and environmental studies for students, teachers, researchers, policy makers, and the general public. It further serves as a research and field laboratory for herbal medicine, organic farming, indigenous plant propagation and wildlife protection.Located at Barangay Granda, it is nestled at the foothills of the Marapara Mountain Range which is part of the Northern Negros Natural Park.
