The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, an “Advanced Research and Education University” as awarded with the Order of the Ministry of National Education no 5262/September 5th 2011, is today a tertiary educational institution having both tradition and national and international recognition. The Technical University comprises at present 12 faculties, in the two academic centres of Cluj-Napoca... and Baia Mare as well as in locations, such as Alba-Iulia, Bistrita, SatuMare and Zalau.
The educational offer, aligning the Bologna system, includes Bachelor, Master, Ph.D. programmes of study as well as lifelong educational programmes. The domains of study range widely from engineering to architecture, from fundamental sciences to social sciences, humanities and arts. The Department of Lifelong Learning, Distance Learning, and part-time courses also organizes activities and lifelong courses, post graduate programmes, as well as courses for professional development and occupational standards.
Fully integrated in the international academic life, The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca pays attention to the international exchange of values, an aspect that is visible in the over 200 interuniversity agreements and in the large number of student mobilities. The opening towards the European and world space of education and research through an internationalization process represents one of the major objectives of the university.
Besides education, research is the main priority of The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. Research structures, from centres to platforms, are operational within all the faculties of the university. The performance related to the economic and social environment, international cooperation and visibility, scientific novelty and pluridisciplinarity defines the research environment of our university. The fields of research cover a wide range, from engineering – most largely covered – to fundamental, social, humanistic and artistic fields. The research lines are also oriented along the world priorities and perspectives, that is from information technology and communications to renewable energies and ecology, from superconductivity, spintronics and nanomaterials to management and robotics, from mechatronics and electrical engineering to vehicles and future dwelling or urban planning and society, humanities and arts.

The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (TUC-N) is a leading Romanian university, recognized as a centre of academic and scientific excellence regionally, nationally and internationally. It has continually developed, mirroring the needs and the development of contemporary Romanian society. Following the merger with the North University of Baia Mare four years ago, the first such event in the country, the Technical University expanded its fields of competence onto Fundamental Sciences, Humanities and Arts. Connected to international current trends, characterized by dynamism in its planning and actions, the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca has always been one of the forefront academic institutions which, through its traditions and the values it upholds, can lead society to prosperity and progress.
The organization of the Technical University is complex, comprising 12 faculties which operate in the two university centres, Cluj-Napoca and Baia Mare, complemented by their extensions located in the cities of Alba Iulia, Satu-Mare and Zalau. This type of organization emphasizes regional connections which give our university its specific character and differentiate it from other national universities. The TUC-N brand is one of engineering, advanced scientific research, innovation and artistic creativity in this part of Romania.
In the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, full time and part time Bachelor level studies are offered in its 12 faculties (9 in Cluj-Napoca, 4 in Baia-Mare) and the colleges running locally in: Alba-Iulia, Bistrita, Satu-Mare, and Zalau); the studies extend over four years for engineering sciences, only three years in the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences of the North University Centre of Baia-Mare and 6 years in the Faculty of Architecture. Bachelor level studies contain minimum 180 and maximum 240 ECTS points, according to the Bologna system. The exception from the rule is represented by the Faculty of Architecture with six years of study and 360 ECTS points. Bachelor level studies can be state funded or paid individually by fee-paying students. These studies are offered both in Romanian, English and German, in several faculties of the university.

The Senate of the Technical university of Cluj-Napoca has the purpose of identifying and acting upon those forces that can make our university fulfil its mission, maintain its performance in research and education, contribute with valuable ideas recognised by the national and international community, have high moral standards and academic spirit, that is a university that can contribute to finding economic, social and cultural solutions. We all have the duty of accepting the evaluation of our educational and research work, of protecting academic democracy, dialogue and law based principles.
