Stockholm University is located in one of Europe"s most dynamic capital cities. The University has 34,000 students, 1,700 doctoral students and 5,000 staff. It is the home to the country’s most substantial research within science and human science, as well as the home of a number of internationally prominent research environments.
Strategies for Stockholm University is a policy document that outlines the overall direction for the University for the period 2015-2018. The strategy document contains a university-wide action plan as well as action plans for the scientific area of Science and the scientific area of Human Science. In December 2014 the University Board decided on strategies for Stockholm University. The strategies define the fundamental values and objectives that will guide the university for the next four years. The document should be viewed as the tip of a triangle of which the action plans of the two main scientific areas form the base. At the university level, the strategies are complemented by an action plan decided upon by the Vice-Chancellor.
Strategies for Stockholm University is divided into four main areas: Research and education, Recruitment and competence development, International and national cooperation and Management and operational support. The action plans have essentially the same structure. Under each main area concrete actions are listed based on the general principles found in the overall strategies.
The University"s researchers are active in debate and social development and are among the most cited in the Nordic countries according to research organisation Nordforsk. The University"s researchers engage in government investigations, participate in the media, leave comments on draft laws and are included in participate in several Nobel committees and international expert bodies.
