Founded in 2009 with the aim of training and educating professionals for tomorrow’s global business needs, the International College offers a total immersion learning environment in English, while the establishment of the College of Communication & Design and the College of Tourism & Hospitality provides a favorable learning and training environment for students who wish to work in the cultural and creative industries or in the service sector. Built on a solid foundation of sustainable and continuous development, ISU currently has eight colleges: College of Electrical & Information Engineering, College of Science & Engineering, College of Management, International College, College of Language Arts, College of Tourism & Hospitality, College of Communication & Design, and College of Medicine, and it works toward becoming an international comprehensive university which equally values humanities and technology as well as cultivates professionals to serve the current and future needs of the industry.
ISU passed with flying colors the 2013 Evaluation of General Education and the Second-Cycle Program Evaluation conducted by the Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan, making it the only university in Taiwan to pass these two evaluations at once, and it was awarded a substantial grant under the Program for Promoting Teaching Excellence Universities from the Ministry of Education for a third consecutive phase, the No. 1 among private comprehensive universities in southern Taiwan.
ISU’s future development efforts will be partly focused on biotechnology with the aim of narrowing the gap in resources between northern and southern Taiwan. ISU aspires to develop non-polluting high technologies and stimulate local cultural and industrial development by establishing a “Cultural & Green Silicon Valley.” ISU expects a transformation into a green hi-tech university which puts equal emphasis on liberal arts and technology, and at the same time promotes cultural and industrial development in southern Taiwan.
With the support of E United Group, ISU provides substantial offers to recruit faculty members with research specialties and practical experiences from different disciplines and professions. In regard to curriculum design, ISU underlines the importance of both theory and practice, and incorporates them into teaching and experiments. Faculty members are encouraged to guide students in conducting not only research in their respective fields but also in interdisciplinary studies. To create a diverse situated learning environment, ISU has set up well-equipped laboratories for different disciplines, established the Chinese Culture Classroom and the Japanese Culture Classroom, and put up bilingual signs on campus. In addition, the establishment of the Multimedia Center and the Hospitality Operation Center gives ISU students a head start on gaining practical experience. ISU students may also take internships in the affiliated companies of E United Group or E-DA World based on their professions and needs. Hands-on experience gained before graduation is not only a great boost to students’ employability but a guarantee for their career success.
