Vanung University (VNU) is the closest university to the Taoyuan International Airport. Due to the development and the nearby 8 areas of Taoyuan Aerotropolis, VNU strongly emphasize on internationalization teaching integrated with the world. English teaching and foreign language ability improvement are our main teaching emphasis. An Introduction to the College of Aviation and Engineering. Our college includes six departments that offer undergraduate programs, and three of them also offer graduate programs. Those departments are as follows: Aeronautical and Opto-Mechatronic Engineering (for undergraduate students), Civil Engineering (for both undergraduate and graduate students), Environmental Engineering (for undergraduate and graduate students), Computer Science and Information Engineering (for undergraduate students, and also graduate students in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science), Digital Multimedia Technology (for undergraduate students), and Industrial Management (for undergraduate students).
In order to meet our school’s goal of becoming an aviation university, our departments signed letters of intent with various industries so that we may cultivate professional and technical talents in the fields of aviation maintenance, aviation precision manufacturing technology, ICT smart homes, interior design, the development of green ecology, the integration of information and communication technologies, and logistic productivity 4.0.
Each department of our college provides a practice-based learning environment supplemented by theories, where “learning by doing” is one of the primary teaching methods. Student internships and special projects engaged in industries are highly emphasized. Moreover, students are encouraged to participate in international competitions in the areas of their professions, and are also properly facilitated to pass certificate exams in order to obtain professional licenses.
Responding to the government policy of developing Taoyuan Aerotropolis, Vanung University aims to posit itself as Aerotropolis University, within which tourism, hospitality, and management fields are the main developing characteristics. This college of tourism, hospitality, and management was set up in 2015. Eight majors are available as options within this degree program: Food and Beverage Management, Tourism and Leisure Management, Hotel Management , Air Transport and Service Management, Business Administration, Information Management, Marketing and Logistics, and Finance Management. Students may pursue the B.S. degree and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificates to develop or upgrade their skills in a particular field.
Vanung University was founded by Professor Hsin-Chai Chuang on March 27, 1972. It was named in the beginning as Van Nung School of Industrial Skills, providing two-year programs in Textile Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Civil Engineering, with senior high school graduates admitted.
In 1973, it was renamed as Van Nung Institute of Industry, and the Department of Industrial Management came into existence, recruiting vocational high school graduates.
In 1982, the night school was set up. In 1990, it was renamed again as Van Nung Institute of Industry and Commerce with business/management-related departments being set up.
In 1999, it was upgraded as Van Nung Institute of Technology. The night school was renamed as School of Continuing Education ; meanwhile, the College of Continuing Education with offiliated weekend classes was set up.There are thirteen departments consisting of four studying categories, recruiting high school and vocational high school graduates in classes of the four-year technological college system and the two-year junior college system, and junior college graduates in classes of the two-year technological college system respectively.
In 2002, the Graduate School of Business and Management was established. On Feb.1, 2004 VIT was renamed as Vanung University. Four academic groups were upgraded to four colleges.
In 2004, Graduate School of Enginecring Science and Technology was established.There are more than ten thousand students and over 400 faculty members on campus today.
