7 RTA fines you must know

There are various fines that can be avoided if you’re a little careful about them. Dubai is already an expensive place and it’s better to not encounter any traffic fines here as it can get even more costly. There have been a lot of provisions for the fines lately; the Dubai Traffic police even announced special discounts to cut down your fines. However, it’s better to be safe than sorry and be acquainted with knowledge regarding traffic fines. Following is a list of 7 RTA (Road and Transport Authority) fines that you should be aware of:

List of RTA Fines:

  1. Driving under the influence
  2. Valid documents
  3. Tinting windows
  4. Entering prohibited areas
  5. Crossing speed limit
  6. Parking at the wrong spaces
  7. Blocking other vehicles

1- Driving under the influence:

This is a highly dangerous activity and should be avoided at all costs. Individuals must make sure that they are not driving under the influence of any drug or substance that might be shifting their focus from the road or causing vision problems. Heavy fines are applied in this case is found out, and the license of the driver along with the vehicle can be confiscated for about 60 days.

2- Valid documents:

There is a list of necessary documents that should always be available to facilitate the traffic police in checking the authenticity of the vehicle and the driver. There must always be a valid driving license with the driver, car insurance, registration papers, etc. In case the driving license is expired, it will cost AED 200 with 3 black points.

3- Tinting windows:

This is not allowed in a lot of countries and is a violation of basic driving protocol as tinted windows don’t let the traffic police officers see the passengers inside and causes suspicion. AED 1500 is charged for tinting windows. The allowable window tinting is up to 30%.

4- Entering prohibited areas:

AED 1000 is charged for entering into restricted areas. Furthermore, the list of fines continues as this list only accounted for fines on vehicles. Motorcyclists and bikers are charged based on another set of rules specified for them. The RTA website specifies all these in detail.

5- Crossing speed limit:

It’s important to always stay within the speed limit as it’s not only about your money, but the fact that over speeding can cost you your life and put others in danger as well. Everyone must follow traffic rules to keep those around them safe and this has to be taken as a shared responsibility as only then can an individual’s contribution count. The specified limit is 30-40 km/h on small streets and around 60 km/h on main roads. The fine on crossing the specified speed limit is AED 400-1000 and depends on the type of road. Over speeding is not only fined but also has another consequence of the vehicle being confiscated for 30 days. 

6- Parking at the wrong spaces:

Parking at spaces where it’s not allowed or blocking space of other vehicles or parking on someone else’s spot (for example parking on the reserved spot for disabled people) has a fine of AED 1000 with 6 black points on the license. 

7- Blocking other vehicles:

I found blocking other vehicles, AED 200 will be charged. Blocking pedestrians is also illegal and costs around AED 400 fine.
