The UAE identity card is an identity card issued by the Federal Identity and Citizenship Authority. According to the law, all UAE citizens and residents must apply and take it with them.
Uses of the Emirates ID: You can get government services, you can vote in the Federal National Assembly elections, you can travel without documents as a UAE citizen traveling within the Gulf Cooperation Council, the card acts as a document for immigration through eGates and smart gates at several UAE airports.
Features of the ID card
The UAE Identity Card consists of the following components that provide the highest level of security and precision.
- Smart card
- Fingerprint biometrics.
- Public critical infrastructure (digital signature and authentication certificate)
Identification number
Its identification number characterizes the identity card, called the identification number, which is permanently consistent with the holder. Thanks to this unique number, you can use all public services, as well as some non-governmental services and private organizations, which may require identification cards as proof of who gets access to the service. The identification number is unique and does not repeat and contains 15 digits.
Electronic chip
Contains owner data. The data on this card can be read on machines created for this purpose, and check the user credentials. Some data is encrypted, and only accredited institutions can read / write / update to protect data privacy.
Other technologies
The ID card has the latest technology in smart cards like the UV ink, including the correct letters, and line drawing as well. It has about nine security features, which makes it very difficult to counterfeit cards because this feature is superior to the standards currently used in many cards (such as bank credit cards).
How to get the ID card
In order to receive an identity card in the UAE, the applicant must fill out an electronic form at one of the authorized typing centers or through the online form on the website of the Federal Identity and Citizenship Certificate (FAIC). You will receive a message on your phone containing information about when and where to register for the application. Candidates should go to the registration center mentioned in the message to complete the process.
Required Documents
For UAE nationals, the UAE identity card application documents are as follows:
- Original passport
- Original family book (if applying for a newborn, make sure to add the child to the family book) (only required when using through the typing center)
For newborn or Emirates ID applications under the age of 15, the following documents are also required:
- Original birth certificate or father ’s passport or UAE identity card ID card number issued when registering at the population registry
- Personal photos on white background
The cost of the UAE ID card depends on the length of validity (applicants can choose between five or ten years) and the method of application.
