The Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine is one of the largest educational and research centers for training highly qualified specialists for the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Belarus. The strategies of its development have always aimed at achieving the academic and research excellence, close cooperation with producers and international partners. The Academy has always been... searching for new educational, scientific and production technologies and methods as the quality of educational, scientific and production processes have always been of its high priority.
The Academy is a complex architectural entity located in the center of the city and covering the territory over 17 ha. Structurally it includes administrative, academic and research facilities, clinics, libraries, student residentials, sports, health and recreation centers, a student canteen, cafe and auxilary units.
For international students pre-University training programs are offered for the Russian language, Biology and Chemistry. International students are trained on the contractual fee-payment basis. The Study Contract guarantees tuition, dormitory accommodation (2-3 students sharing a room), access to textbooks, library, reading rooms, computer rooms, the Internet.
Rewarding leisure time is as important as effective studies, therefore, one of the goals at the Academy is to assure a rich scene of culture, sports and social activities for students and the staff with the potential to find personal development, creativity and joy.
Annually about 150 various events are held by various clubs and societies that enable you to meet like-minded people and develop your interests. To join a club, society or sports team is a good way of getting to know people better and building a wide social network.There is always something happening around: concerts, festivals, study groups, museum tours, nature walks, craft exhibitions, volunteering, sporting events and much more.Most popular sport societies are: volleyball, basketball, footzal, ping-pong, tennis, free-style wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, weightlifting, powerlifting, martial arts etc.All students are welcome to be involved in many kinds of activities within diverse projects.
The Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the field of Veterinary Medicine in Belarus, and it has its long and exciting history.At the All-Belarusian Congress of Veterinarians on June 27, 1924 a proposal was made to organize a veterinary higher education establishment in Vitebsk. The proposal found support in governmental structures and Vitebsk Veterinary Institute was founded on the basis of the agrarian technical school aiming at rearing the national system of veterinary higher education in Belarus.The opening ceremony of Vitebsk Veterinary Institute took place on November 8, 1924. And the first academic year in the history of Vitebsk Veterinary Institute started on November 24, 1924 with a hundred of students and eleven lecturers.
Soon after the inauguration of the Institute, the first veterinary journals, manuals, guides, monographs on almost all topical issues of veterinary and animal husbandry began to be published. A significant role in the formation of veterinary education in Belarus, organization of the educational process and development of material and technical base of Vitebsk Veterinary Institute was played by its rectors.The Academy continued to develop. And 10 years later, in 2008, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called it «the pearl of the agrarian education».
In the beginning of 1998 Anton Ivanovich Yatusevich, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Professor, Honourary Scientist of the Republic of Belarus was appointed the Rector of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine.Under his leadership the new study facilities were put into operation, the quality of education and research processes has achieved the highest priority. The latest educational technologies were introduced into the academic process. And this has its noticeable positive impact on the qualifying characteristics of veterinary surgeons and zooengineers trained at the Academy, who are able to work in the system of agroindustrial complex under present conditions. A high-quality in specialist training has been confirmed by the results of many national and international student competitions.
Since 2002 the Academy comprises the Luzhesno Agrarian College. In 2003 the affiliation of the Academy was formed on the basis of «Rechitsky State Agrarian College», and in 2006 — the affiliation on the basis of «Pinsk State Agrarian Technological College» was opened. In 2005 the Zooveterinary Association «Agrarian Education, Science and Production» was created, encompassing the Academy and 11 agrarian colleges.
The integration of secondary and higher education is already showing its positive effect, creating the opportunities for the educational base and scientific potential of the Academy to be used in the educational process in colleges. 16 years of the twenty first century became the years of the remarkable growth and increase in the quality of education and research. The Academy adherent to European standards in quality has been granted the status of the Leading Educational Establishment in the branch, and it has turned into the nationally and internationally recognized leader.In December 2016, the Rector of the Academy is appointed Mikalai Ivanavich Haurichenka, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor.
