Since 1921, the Campus adventiste du Salève is the only French-speaking adventist institution of higher education in Europe. The Campus belongs to a worldwide network of adventist education, the largest in the Protestant field.
October 6th, 1921, The first Principal of this campus, L.L Cavines, declared in his inaugural speech : «The purpose of this school is to prepare men and women to... serve God and Humanity. We are here to do good around us ».
Practically 100 years later, the purpose is unchanged. We hope that every student on our campus may feel a purpose. That each one may build their life founded on the acquisition of knowledge and know-how based on christian values.
Throughout the years, so many human adventures have occured on this campus. It might be time to come and experience your own! Coming to visit the campus, or coming to study here, you will see for yourself why the Campus has a special space in thousands of people"s hearts around the world.
The Campus considers that its educative mission would be incomplete without the transmission of values on the purpose of life, a persons dignity and living out Adventist faith. These Christian values, that the campus carries out are based on the Bible. We want to encourage each student to live an authentic Christian life in a spirit of love and service. We encourage all members of the campus to realise their full potential through personal development at different levels and to benefit from the high quality, creative and challenging learning opportunities we provide.
Right from the first years after the Adventist pioneers came to establish themselves in Europe at the beginning of the ninteenth century, they wished to establish a missionary school. In 1921, two old hotels, a farm and a magnificent property of around 20 hectars was bought in Collonges-sous-Salève in Haute Savoie.
The "Séminaire Adventiste du Salève" as it was first called, opened its doors on October 6th 1921 welcoming 76 students. At that time, the school offered trainings as Bible teacher, school teacher or door to door salesman and office worker. Work on the farm, gardening and wood work, cooking courses and sewing completed the theoretical teaching in a classroom.
The Adventist theology faculties primary function is to give Theological and pastoral education to future pastors of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Seminary has a partnership with the Faculté de théologie protestante de Stransbourg since 1983, enabling students to access a complete range of Theology degrees, such as a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters degree.
In addition, the Faculty has signed academic partnerships with Andrews University in the United States, the Laval University in Canada and the Adventist Theology Seminaries of Friedensau in Germany and Sagunto in Spain.
The Alfred Vaucher Library is the Resource Centre of the Campus adventiste du Salève. It serves the Theology Faculty, the Institut de français langue étrangère and the Human Sciences Institute. It also serves teaching staff, Primary and Secondary School students.
The Alfred Vaucher Library is a learning media Library; you can find books, periodicals, audio cassettes, cd-roms, dvds, video cassettes, slides, posters and microfiles. The Library provides several consultation sites.
The Library"s main function is to serve the four learning departments. However it is open to everyone. On-site consultation is free of charge. Public lending of books is only available to Students with a student card, and registered library users. In order to become a registered-user, you will need your ID card and a valid email address.
Campus ministries is an active part of the Campus" spiritual life. Aware of student"s difficulties, we aim to stand by students to help them fulfill their goals and calling. Throughtout the numerous spiritual activities and events offered on campus, we want students to find spiritual nourishment and the opportunity to put their faith into action. The programme offers different weekly worship opportunities. The chaplain and his team are at students and staff"s disposal for visits.
Members of the Chaplains team participate in the "Spiritual Life Comittee" which produces an attractive spiritual events calendar. It aims to be creative and strives to encourage students to participate in numerous worship opportunities such as: prayer walks, recreative evenings, worship moments, festive meals, freshman welcoming meals, choir, sabbath-opening programmes, afterglow, sabbath school.
Being the liasiaon between the Campus church, the Students association and the near-by communities, the team collaborates in various programmes, seminars, weeks of prayer, ecumenical meetings in Saint-Julien, etc.
The student"s association (Association des étudiants du Campus -AECAS) is very active. It organizes events on campus (some with help from the chaplain"s team) to raise funds students well-being.
Our school of language has been offering its French language courses for over 90 years. Thousands of students, from all over the world, have come to spend, either a year, or just a summer on our campus to learn French.
Our courses are structured to correspond to all levels: from breakthrough level to effective proficiency level (A1 breakthrough, A2 waystage, B1 threshold, B2 vantage level, C1 effective operational proficiency level). Our goal is to offer an ideal learning environment for our students to learn French. Therefore, our school keeps classes down to a maximum of 15 students per class.
Our reputation of excellency has grown with years thanks to the high standard of our French courses and to a team of qualified and dedicated teachers, attentive to students individual progress and specific needs.
Our primary purpose is to teach french. Moreover, the Institut de français langue étrangère aims to initiate students to French culture. Throughout the year, we offer a wide range of cultural programms such as visits, trips around France, French cuisine courses, theater, cinema and art gallery outings.
The IFLE prepares students for the french general examinations of DELF, DALF and TCF, which are aligned with the Common European Reference Framework. These diplomas are delivered by the French Ministry of National Education. The examinations are taken at the end of May, at the end of the school year.
