Blekinge Institute of Technology, BTH, has a distinctive focus on IT and innovation for sustainable growth. BTH conducts education and research at a high international level in which engineering and IT are integrated with other disciplines such as spatial planning, industrial economics, design and health sciences to contribute to solving the challenges facing society. BTH offers student-centred and research-based education resulting in students who are satisfied with their education and in demand on the labour market. Our aim is that the students become creative, knowledgeable and independent, acquiring a sound basis for their future success after graduation. BTH is a university where the research is applied, i.e. the purpose of the research is to seek new knowledge with a view to a definite application. Research is conducted in collaboration with both business and industry as well as society, and always with a clear focus – that the results will contribute to solving the challenges facing society.

Both of BTH’s campuses are located by the sea, which creates a special atmosphere. What distinguishes BTH is its close cooperation with industry and society which permeates both education and research at the regional, national and international levels.
BTH has many years of experience of close collaboration with business and industry as well as society. The goal of our strategic cooperation agreements is to create long-term collaborations for BTH development, education and research, and to strengthen the innovation capabilities and competitiveness of our partners, students, researchers and teachers.
BTH has a number of strategic cooperation partners. These include e.g. a number of internationally active business partners such as Volvo, Ericsson, Telenor, ABB, Alfa Laval, SAAB and Kockums; public partners such as Blekinge municipalities, Blekinge County Council, Region Blekinge, the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket), the Navy, the Coast Guard, the Swedish Transport Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. We also have academic partners such as the Royal Institute of Technology, Luleå University of Technology and higher education institutions within the cooperation Lärosäten Syd. The latter is a strategic cooperation between universities in southern Sweden: BTH, Halmstad University, Kristianstad University, Lund University, Malmö University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences/Alnarp.
Many companies and organisations have evolved and gained new knowledge by letting students examine problems or develop ideas. To hire students during their education is a good opportunity to get smaller tasks or investigations carried out, while establishing connections with the students. Our students will become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and community stakeholders and we attach great importance on providing our students with the opportunity to establish contacts with representatives of industry and society during their studies at BTH.
