Jönköping University is a young professional-oriented university characterised by a high degree of internationalization, an entrepreneurial spirit and extensive collaboration with surrounding society. It is one of three Swedish private, non-profit institutions of higher education with the right to award doctorates. Jönköping University has around 11,000 students, of which 2,000 are internat...ional students. Jönköping University is one of three Swedish private, non-profit institutions of higher education with the right to award doctorates. JU operates on the basis of an agreement with the Swedish Government and conforms to national degree regulations and quality requirements. The university is organised as a non-profit corporate group with Jönköping University Foundation as the parent organisation and six wholly owned subsidiaries: the School of Health and Welfare, the School of Education and Communication, Jönköping International Business School, the School of Engineering, University Services and Jönköping University Enterprise.
The University offers 80 programmes and specialisations on Bachelor’s and Master’s level and prepares students for working in an international context. Focus areas within research are entrepreneurship and renewal; technical expertise and know-how to small, medium-sized and large companies; health, care and social work from a holistic perspective; and conditions for education and communication. Jönköping University also conducts commissioned eduaction and research and also offers preparatory programmes called Pathway programmes, designed for international students. One example is the course Advanced International Marketing, Trade, and Export Management at Jönköping International Business School. In this course, JIBS students work directly with Swedish companies to assess how their products might be marketed in various international markets. This collaboration allows students to come into closer contact with the business community and work directly on a project, while our partner SMEs are able to take advantage of the students’ skills in helping to internationalise their business activities. The students are placed in international teams and the winners of the “Expanding Markets Award” share a cash prize. The Career Center provides all students with a meeting place between professional life and Jönköping University. Career Center aims to strengthen students" opportunities of successfully finding appropriate employment upon graduation.
