The Zagreb School of Economics and Management began operations in September 2002, with the enrollment of its first generation of students. This marked the beginning of a culmination of years of work towards the goal of bringing the best practices of business schools to Croatia and creating a business school with talented business people. Among those deserving individuals is the late Joseph Bombelles, professor emeritus of Economics at John Carroll University in Cleveland, USA. Bombelles was a great patriot and descendant of an aristocratic family; he was the first and only president to-date of ZSEM’s Board of Trustees and the Programs’ Council and has been selflessly devoting his knowledge and energy to ensuring that ZSEM remain a top business education institution.
The mission of ZSEM is to transfer values, knowledge, and skills that students need for long-term success in a globalized business world undergoing constant technological and market transformations. Studying at ZSEM means actively involving in everyday life of the School, which is quite various and gives students opportunities to gain knowledge, skills and values trough mutual interaction. Approaching each student individually and with support, ZSEM helps students find their own career path which eventually results in starting off a successful career.
In order to achieve its goal of transferring values, knowledge, and skills, our faculty produces intellectual contributions, primarily discipline-based, along with contributions to teaching and practice. We are focused on providing high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs. ZSEM’s wider social influence is evident in innovative programs and working methods, in the interaction of all stakeholders with the business community as well as in publicity, which is an important tool for building relationships with businesses and our broader community. The objectives set by our mission will be fulfilled through:
