University of Turku, the campus area is home to Turku’s Swedish university, Åbo Akademi, and the Turku University of Applied Sciences. The total of students in the Turku universities is nearly 40 000.

The quality of the University"s operation is the result of competent, responsible and ethical activities of the members of the university community. Quality management is part of the regular operation of the University. Responsible persons and a quality work steering group are in charge of the development and coordination of quality management. In addition, we participate in different external evaluations and audits. The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre has awarded the University of Turku a quality label, which is valid for six years until 16 June 2020.

Quality management at the University of Turku is an integrated part of all operations, and the same division of responsibilities is followed in quality management as in other operations. The University’s Quality Manager is Senior Advisor Kari Seppälä. In faculties, the dean is responsible for organising the quality work. In departments and other units this responsibility lies with the head of the department.

The Quality Manager is in charge of the coordination and development of operations pertaining to the University’s quality management, the preparation and presentation of the decisions pertaining to the University’s quality system and monitoring the execution of these decisions, reporting on the information and results produced by the quality system to the University’s leadership. As a coworker in quality, Development Specialist Ilona Tuominen is e.g. in charge of checking and updating the contents and links of the Quality Manual and the communication related to the University’s quality system in cooperation with University Communications.
The steering group for the University’s quality work monitors the implementation of the university’s quality work and makes suggestions concerning the instructions and recommendations for its development. The chair of the steering group is Vice Rector Riitta Pyykkö, Senior Advisor to the steering group is Kari Seppälä and the secretary is Development Specialist Ilona Tuominen.
