Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK) is an international learning and development community which operates in its own compact campus area. KAMK uses internationalisation as a regional development tool. One profile that cuts through all operations at KAMK, smart solutions, is used to steer all activities. The five schools of KAMK each have one focus area that supports this profile. The focus areas will enable the schools to increase their national status. Integrating the focus areas creates a readiness for international activities in line with the profile.

An international learning and development community consisting of approximately 2000 students and 230 experts operates in its own compact campus area located in Kajaani’s impressive natural surroundings.

KAMK is a state-recognised institution in Finland. The activities in universities of applied sciences are regulated by the Polytechnics Act (932/2014). The government decree on polytechnics/universities of applied sciences (1129/2014) defines the objectives, extent and overall structure of polytechnic degrees. The Ministry of Education confirms the degree programmes of universities of applied sciences, and within the framework of these regulations, the universities of applied sciences decide on the content and structure of their degrees in more detail. The European Qualifications Framework provides a tool for defining the interrelations of national qualifications and qualifications systems. Each country references its national qualifications to the eight levels of the European Qualifications Framework, by using national qualifications frameworks or levels of national qualifications systems as guides.
Internationalisation has long been among the key aims of the Finnish higher education policy, as well as at the core of higher education institutions’ own strategies. The national aim is to develop higher education institutions into genuinely international education and research communities where the international experience and connections of the staff support the internationalisation of students.
Each of five KAMK schools has an International Co-ordinators who deals with international affairs as well as teaching. In all matters concerning international affairs please contact the International Co-ordinators or the staff of the International Office.
KAMK has partner universities and other partners in more than fourty countries. Each School in KAMK has its own partner in co-operation. KAMK is a member of the Arctic University that has an exchange programme called North2north (n2n). Students from KAMK can go on exchange to the n2n programme’s partner universities in Canada, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Russia and the United States.
KAMK Sports offers sports services accessible for all skill levels for students. Activities take place in the areas and sports locations of our campus. We offer instructed group fitness lessons and possibility to use the sports locations of the campus independently. The goal of KAMK Sports is to enhance the wellbeing of our students and to make possible for everyone to do sports throughout the studies.
You are allowed to use the services of KAMK Sports with a sports sticker: if you buy the brief membership (20€/ semester) you are allowed to use the sports hall (ball sports turns) and the gym independently. With the broad membership (30€/semester) you get all these and also the possibility to attend every instructed lesson offered.
There is a battle between the staff and the students of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences going on. The winner takes it all and holds the undeniable title of the championship of our campus! Kainuu Vocational school and high school are also participating this competition.
The battle consists of five playful competitions. The purpose is to strengthen the most powerful weapon of our campus: the feeling of unity. The competitions will also bring life to our campus on monthly basis. We are also competing between two campus. The winning team will be the one who gets the most points from all the 5 contests altogether!
Anyone from Kajaani UAS with playful mind can participate in this battle! There is always a need for people to cheer for their favorite team if the actual competition is not your cup of tea.
